Two different mail servers not supported?

I am trying to get two separate mail servers online, an older one running Imail used by HC6.1 and a newer one running Smartermail for new sites. Seems HC7 only lets you specify one mail server. Shouldn't you specify the mail server software when adding the server to the cluster??? It doesn't let you change it there, it only lets you set a GLOBAL setting of Imail or Smartermail. So its like ISPs must stick to one mail software and can't migrate or go to a different/better product down the road!

We follow the principle of standardization so you can use only one mail server within the same cluster.

Ok so remove the Global Setting and allow users to select what Mail server product the Subsequent Server uses when they add it. There is no reason to limit people to using a single mail server in a cluster. Especially when you will have customers who are trying to migrate from one mail product to another mail product. This would take all of about 15 minutes for the programming to be changed to benefit everyone.

You should have multiple clusters for different mail servers. Within the same cluster it is difficult to handle it especially in case of load balancing.

    That is a lame excuse.
What happens when you have a customer who doesn't like Imail and wants Smartermail instead? Are you expecting us to tell them to delete their site completely off Cluster #1 so that we can setup them up on CLUSTER #2 just for a different mail server?
How are you going to have the the Name Servers and SQL servers in TWO clusters at the same time?!?
You guys are not thinking this out at all! A cluster should not care if you have 2 different mail servers running two different pieces of software. It doesn't make any bit of difference if you have it load balance between the two different mail products or if you set it up that the old mail server is maxed out so that it never creates new domains on the old mail server. You can't expect customers to deploy an extra primary NS, secondary NS, MSSQL, and Mysql server just to support a new MAIL server product.

If there can be multiple databases supported on the same server as well as the cluster, then there should be different mail servers supported in the cluster too. We have recently migrated one server to Smartermail and we are not able to change the mail server. If we change the mail server in the global settings to use smartermail, then we cannot add any mail domain. HC should support multiple mail servers in the same cluster and should make the changes as soon as possible.

I don't think that keeping 2 different mail servers on same machine is a wise idea, but its okay for the time being.

Two mail servers would be a very good option for those who are using MS-Exchange and any other.

The issue is that even if we have separate mail servers on separate machines in the cluster, HC should allow both which does not happen and HC does not bother to respond too.

We have included it in our enhancement list so it will take sometime to support multiple mail servers in the cluster.

well, thsi really ****, HC you are ALWAYS limiting our business !! why is it that you plan a piece of software, (which is meant to HELP with day to day operations) with so many limits ? HC is the ONLY panel that sets so many limitations !!! I know I have tested others, why HC why ?
Hosting is not an industry that deals well with STANDARDIZATION, why would you design software that closes options for us ? doesn't make any sense.

Request for Two different mail servers will increase when user will start using MS-Exchange 2007. But good to see HC team willing to facilitate us by changing mail server structure in the cluster. They already told us that it is in the to-do list.

I know HC will respect their clients request as they did in past by integrating Multiple instances of sql/mysql server and especially DNN integration.

You've probably never worked with Pl*sk before. We're currently planning a migration to HC from them for the same reason. Currently were just waiting for build 16. All panels have flaws. People have been waiting for coldfusion support on DNP for years now. Plsk breaks every time theres an update and support takes 3 days for an answer not to mention their new SAS only license. H3lm and Cpnel are overly complex and confusing to customers.

Speaking of... when is the next build?
