MS SQL in HC7

Hello HC,

While we await the release of the build 9 of HC7, here is a feature request which I strongly feel should be implemented. As all know, HC by default stores MS SQL Databases in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\ directory. Now the problem here is that C Drive is normally allotted lesser space and maximum space is assigned to the D Drive as it contains all the website data. Now if a huge database is hosted on the server and the MDF and LDF files continue to grow at an enormous rate, then there is a danger of the C drive being fully occupied. This hampers the performance of the server. I had spoken to one of HC support executives some time ago and he said it was not possible because of the clustering feature in HC7. My request is to provide an option in HC to select the path of the database so that we can accordingly create the database in the path of our choice and not the C drive. I hope everybody will agree with me on this point. Let me know how can it be implemented.

I wonder which tech that was.

TBH their shouldnt be a problem with path!

Thiers a section in hc config for mssql so each server has its username and pass stored in hc db core, so adding a path value shouldnt be to hard.

I dont think the answer you got given came from the devs.

I guess we have already explained you by email that you can set new SQL Data folder path by opening Enterprise Manager then go to (Registered Server)---->Propertiese--->Database Settings.

Even if it was not told to me, I know it is possible in this way. My real worry is what about the path of the databases in the HC database if we change the path of the database from the Enterprise Manager. Also, we will have to do this exercise everytime a database is created in the server. Besides, we have a number of resellers who are given separate control panels and who create MS SQL databases from the control panel. We cannot keep a track for each and every database created in the server. I think HC should make life easy than difficult.

This is not simple my friend. There is a big headche to calculate quota becuase in that way USER will be able to create data files anywhere. Anyway in future we may consider such implementation but not now because we already have loads of features pending in the queu.

It is a very complicated implementation, I guess that it take at least 1 year...
