Exchange 2007 AutoDiscover issues

We have a new Exchange Server setup and running HC7 on it. We are having issues with Outlook clients being prompted for their password everytime they open Outlook and also when a client tries to access the Out of Office Assistant from the Outlook client they are told that the server is unavailable.

We have traced it back to the autodiscover and outlook anywhere service. Has anyone else had this issue, and how can we configure HC7 or Exchange to function correctly for our hosted domains?

One of our customer suggested this solution:

The Auto Discover issue is not an easy fix, the issue is the way outlook 2007 and 2003 handle out of office and etc.

Now if you have an multi domain environment then you need to get a multi domain SSL certificate and add DNS info to each domain then need to have an “A” record called “autodiscover” and point it to the the main server where everyone logs in.

Then you will need to buy Standard Multiple Domain (UCC) SSL and generate the request through exchange shell

If your DNS supports  SRV then all you need to add it an SRV record.  If ISP/DNS holder has SRV then follow instructions in this article, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940881 otherwise they have to do the expensive way like us given above.

    Hi,

One of our client gave this solution for Password prompt issue:

" The fix for my password prompt issue was that the settings on the OAB directory were mismatched between IIS and the actual Directory Folders, even though there is nothing there, it did not like those settings."

This password prompt may also occur because of setting 'BASIC Authentication' in Email Account setup. Try this
    1. In Outlook,  Go to: Tools > Email Accounts > Click Next to View or change existing email accounts > Highlight Microsoft Exchange Server and click Change > Click More Settings > Connections tab > Exchange Proxy Settings.

        2. Select NLTM Authentication as the Proxy Authentication Setting
This settings require that your Outlook Anywhere (RPC/HTTPS) be configured with NTML authentication.

Also this password prompt might occur due to some other problems. Please check these links if above method doesnt solve your problem.
