Database Size Control

I can now see that build 20 is out which is an excellent piece of work on the part of the HC team. Keep it up.

One of its enhancement is the Database size control for MSSQL server. How does that exactly work.

Here are the instructions to use database size feature in Hosting Controller:

    Configuration at host level:

    - Enable database size feature at Server Manager--->Global Settings( Database Server)
    - Define database size for each reseller at Hosting Plans--->Resource Propertiese(SQL Server Databases Properties)

    Plan creation at Reseller level:

    - Create a new plan and set some value of following resources and sell this plan to webadmin.

    Maximun Log File (LDF) Size
    Maximun Data File (MDF) Size

There should be an option to shrink the database and the log file since the applications stop working if the database mdf or the ldf files are full.

In SQL 2000. you could remove the ldf file by detaching the database and while attaching the mdf file of the database, it created a new ldf file. It was fairly simple, but no longer in SQL 2005. In SQL 2005, removing the ldf file does not allow to create a new ldf file while attaching the db and it fails. Shrinking is the only option, but even that is not fool proof as the ldf file cannot be shrunk if there is no free space available within it.
