SQL Backup/Restore feature

The current SQL Backup/Restore function of HC needs to be improved. Currently, when a user does a database backup from the control panel, he is welcomed with a text saying it is in queue. It does not give him the status and he keeps on wondering where the backup has been stored. A User certainly needs backup to download on his local system. I request HC to allow the download of the backup taken by the user. There should be an option to store the backup on the server or to download directly on his local system. This function is already provided in D*N*P.

Agree, Please include option to store db backup on local drive.

And also change the implementation of database backup/restore in HC panel where the message is really confusing " database backup/restore task in queue and will be done in next schedule "

Yes, because it’s a time consuming process and that’s why we give user a text message saying it is in queue.

But after the successful backup/restore, we do send an email to the user. The backup is always placed in FTP root of the user directory so that he can then download the file. We can change our email text to make it more understandable for user, if required.

D*N*P allows restoration of database backup from the local system even if the name is different from the one created in the server. Does HC allow the same?

@Natish, do you mean that during restoring database user can chose local system path for .bak file ?

You are right. This will allow users to upload the backup from the local system and restore it on the server.

In coming HC8 build2 version you will see improved Database manager section, which cover almost all above feature request.
