Remote Secondary MS-DNS

I have been unable to get our remote, secondary MS-DNS to work properly. I have followed all of the FAQ/Support configuration guides (such as the DComCnfg) but it just will not work.

Any other things I should try?

    hello
    Asif:
    HI
    Asif:
    How may I help you?
    Twizted:
I need help with HC6.1 DNS on secondary/remote machine please
    Twizted:
I've already followed the instructions for dcomcnfg on both machines
    Twizted:
I've already checked the settings in the HCsettings on both machines
    Twizted:
    anything else I should check?
    Asif:
Well have you installed the HC secondary installer on the secondary DNS server?
    Asif:
And is the latest hotfix 3.3 applied on both of the servers there?
    Twizted:
yes, it used to work long ago
    Twizted:
    yes 3.3 applied on both
    Asif:
okay then if you have followed the article exactly then your secondary DNS should work properly.
    Twizted:
so what do you do when it doesnt?
    Asif:
Well we follow the same article to resolve these issues and nothing special do we do.
    Twizted:
ok, so if I have HC6.1 hotfix 3.3 on both machine, and I have everything set properly in the HCSettings, and I follow your DCOMCNFG article perfectly, and it still doesn't work.. what is the next step?
    Asif:
Then you will have to buy 1 incident of support plan from the following link:
    Asif:
    https://hostingcontroller.com/sales/buynew.cfm?fuseaction=Incident
    Asif:
And we do not chrge the customer until the issue is fixed...
    Twizted:
what happened to life time free technical support?
    Asif:
Well it is still there and you are entitled to get it for FREE but we have already given you its fix....
    Asif:
And you can fix it with the help of this article.
    Twizted:
so, I don't understand. If you have life-time free technical support, how is there $25 fee per incident?
    Asif:
Well it is in our policy to charge customers who come with this issue because the article we have given you to follow consumes lots of our time to fix it....
    Twizted:
well thats a crock of bull**** then

'Life Time free support' facility is only available for issues due to HC. FYI Hosting Controller uses Microsoft provided DCOM to communicate with remote machines and DCOM is a third party tool.

You have to purchase paid support plan because we dedicate a support engineer to fix this third party problem. Moreover, Asif has clrealy mentioned that "we do not chrge the customer until the issue is fixed...

It might be possible issue is due to your own network configuration. Please let me know what is the exact error you are getting in DCOM logs? Do you have all machines with in the same network?

Yes, both machines are on the same network.

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( HostingController ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service stopped.

The primary and the secondary machine BOTH have that exact same error in the logs.

Operation Failed : Error is 'Access is denied.[80070005]'

Hmm.. so some how it must still be something related to the Adv user or something?

Can you ping both machines from each other and in how many hops you complete the tracert? Are you using NAT? What about Adv user I did not get you?

Both machines are behind the same firewall in the same datacenter
Both machines are pingable between each other
Both machines are on the same subnet
    (192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.71)

When the primary tries to update the DNS on the secondary, both machines get the previously mentioned event viewer error - so they are connecting to each other, then failing.
