As long as My SQL community version remains free I am ok with it. I do not think they dare to charge given that their closest competitor MS SQL 2005 Express is free.

Even if they change licensing policy then current FREE version mysql5.1 people can use it for long time as they want.

But maybe some new features they integrate into mysql and convert into license version.

Will see what come next [?]

I personally don't think MySQL will ever become a commercial software. At the most SUN will provide licensing model for MySQL where you have to pay for the support only as in the case of many other open source software. Remember SUN Micrososystems is no Microsoft.

    Hello,
I just learned of the purchase of MySQL http://www.mysql.com/news-and-events/sun-to-acquire-mysql.html & http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/pr/2008-01/sunflash.20080116.1.xml

I think that is possible to change many things in MySQL and surely we don't have the same functions that we have yet. Certainly in the future will have to pay for enhanced features...
