Okay, Here is my suggestions on the interface..
Pull Down with record type (NS,A,CNAME,MX,PTR,TXT) Default to A when you choose add (as it's the most common to add)
Then For Using Style Sheets.. Display the following text boxes and fields for each record type hiding the other text boxes..
NS
Domain name (just the hostname, no need to add the rest of the domain.. ie.. .domain.com is assumed)
Nameserver (Complete Name)
A
Domain name (just the hostname, no need to add the rest of the domain.. ie.. .domain.com is assumed)
Ip Address
CNAME
Domain name (just the hostname, no need to add the rest of the domain.. ie.. .domain.com is assumed)
Canonical name
MX
Domain name (just the hostname, no need to add the rest of the domain.. ie.. .domain.com is assumed)
Mail Exchanger
Pulldown for priority (0 to 50 in increments of 5)
PTR
IP Address
Pulldown with 8,16,24 for the CIDR Block beside IP address
Domain Name (just the hostname, no need to add the rest of the domain.. ie.. .domain.com is assumed)
Give the ability then to edit or delete the records..
Then you need a option to edit the SOA Preferences
Text Boxes for the following
TTL
Refresh
Retry
Expire
Minimum
Then out beside each text box a pull down with the following
Seconds, Minutes, Hours, Days, Weeks as the pull down options
and Finially, a "Default" button to revert back to the "templated" DNS settings specified for the system and/or the paticurlar package.
and when any of the records are changed, added, or deleted, the system automaticly changes the serial number, using the standard format of yyyymmddxx (xx being the instance for that day)
Thanks, Billy
